Park Edward Pearson, born June 23, 1947, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 26, 2011.
Park received his BBA from Baylor University and joined KPMG’s San Antonio office in 1969 where he worked for 35 years serving publicly and privately held clients in the manufacturing, energy and high tech industries. He became a partner in 1979 and was named Managing Partner of the KPMG San Antonio office in 1995, a position he held until his retirement in 2004.
Park earned his wings while serving in the United States Army National Guard as a paratrooper. After his retirement from KPMG he served as a contributing author and consultant to the Financial Accounting Standards Board on its codification project to amalgamate accounting standards in the United States.
Park served as the Interim Audit Director of San Antonio Water System from October 2007 to May 2008. In May 2008 Park joined the City of San Antonio’s Audit Department and was named San Antonio City Auditor in April 2009. A priority for Park was giving back to his community and the city he loved so dearly.
As a founding member of Thousand Oaks Christian Church, Park served as Treasurer, Elder and member of the board. Park served on the accounting advisory council for Baylor University and St. Mary’s University, as well as the business advisory council for University of Incarnate Word. Serving as the Treasurer for his friend, Congressman Henry Bonilla, was a noted and proud experience for Park.
Park was Past President of the Petroleum Accounting Society of San Antonio and Past President of the Forum of Entrepreneurship, affiliated with St. Mary’s University. Park was also a member of numerous organizations, including: Water Resources Committee of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, Financial Executives Institute of San Antonio, American Institute of CPAs, Texas Society of CPAs and San Antonio Chapter Institute of Internal Auditors. He was actively involved in the local United Way chapter, as well as various other charitable organizations.
Park was an avid golfer, hunter and musician. He played the guitar and harmonica in the Church band.
Park leaves behind Nancy Ann Pearson, his loving wife of 34 years and children: Park Blakeley Pearson and Candace Pearson, Hillary Pearson Murff and Aaron Murff and Edward Graham Pearson; grandchildren: Auburn Grace Pearson, Park Walker Pearson and Park Denton Murff. He is also survived by his parents, Colonel Ralph Jones Pearson and Evlyn Belcher Pearson; his brother Ralph Jones Pearson and Louise Pearson; sister, Mary Pearson Pless and Ben Pless, brother-in-law David Ferguson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his sister Evlyn Nelson Pearson Ferguson.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
