Life Legacy
Penny Lynn Hinshaw Tressler, age 58, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011 in San Antonio, TX. She was born and raised in Weatherford, TX, and was involved in Rainbows and Girl Scouts. Penny graduated from Weatherford High School in 1970. She graduated from Texas Woman’s University with an Registered Nurse degree in 1974 and received her Advanced Practice Nursing degree in 1975. Penny attended Northside Baptist Church in Weatherford in her childhood and currently was a member of Grace Bible Chapel in San Antonio. She loved quilting, sewing, and giving away her creations for others to enjoy. From 1975 to 1977, Penny was the Assistant Supervisor at the Family Planning Clinic at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, TX. From 1977 to 1979, she was an Adjunct Professor of Nursing at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. In 1980, she and her pediatrician husband started a pediatric practice in McKinney, TX, where she worked as the RN and Office Manager for several years. In 1979, she was invited to attend Bible Study Fellowship International as a student and then was asked to serve in various leadership capacities in the Children’s Program throughout the next twenty years, including serving as Children’s Area Coordinator for thirteen years. In 2004, Penny was called to serve as the Head of the Children’s Division at BSF Headquarters in San Antonio. In this capacity she was responsible for the provision and editing of Bible study materials for children in thirty-eight countries. This was her greatest joy in her Christian service. She retired from BSF at the end of 2006 when diagnosed with spinocerebellar ataxia. Over the next five years, even in declining health, Penny showed her resilience and joy daily in living the life God gave. She was thankful for her church family, who ministered to her and her husband in many ways, and for her friends from BSF and from throughout her life. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her son, daughter, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. She delighted when her mother, father, sister, and brother-in-law moved near San Antonio to be closer to her during the last two years. She was preceded in death by her father, Winston Frederick Hinshaw. Penny is survived by her husband, Samuel Donald Tressler III, M.D.; son, Nikolaus Andrew Tressler and wife, Beth; daughter, Gretchen Elizabeth Tressler; granddaughter, Charlotte Marie; mother, Tillie Pemberton Hinshaw; sister, Nita Harrell and husband, Richard; and father-in-law, Don Tressler. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
