"Even the saddest
things can become, once
we have made peace
with them, a source of
wisdom and strength
for the journey that
still lies ahead."
- Frederick Buechner
Porter Loring Family Care Services
Over the years the family and staff of Porter Loring Mortuaries has come to recognize that our services need to be comprehensive and ongoing. The funeral is the beginning of a long journey of grief not the end. Therefore, we have developed a community program committed to helping individuals and families cope with grief over time. Our services include:
Continuing Care Consultants: Every family is assigned one of these caring people to assist you with the tasks immediately following the funeral. They are available to help in a variety of ways ranging from issues of settling the estate, to helping you to understand the grief process, to simply being a listening ear should you need to talk.
Grief Education: There are bereavement counselors on staff who can talk to you by phone if you find yourself overwhelmed or confused. They can help you understand what you are going through and what you might expect in the future. They can also recommend literature that might help with your particular kind of loss.
Individual and Family Counseling: Sometimes grief becomes more of a struggle than we can handle. We have a licensed psychotherapist available to help you gain perspective, resolve family issues and channel your grief in a way that will allow for growth and strengthen your family.
Grief Support Groups: It has been found that meeting with others who have experienced a similar loss is a very powerful tool in healing your grief. Our program offers several support groups for specific types of losses. The groups are led by certified support group facilitators.
